Pricing & Fee Schedule

Transparent, project-based rates with total financial certainty.

Every historical record presents unique challenges—some require a simple retrieval, while others need intensive digital restoration. To give you complete control over your project and costs, I work on a flat-rate basis. You will never be billed for unexpected hours, and you remain in absolute control over the final deliverables and cost.

Record retrieval

A flat rate of $40NZD is required for retrieval of any record.

This covers:

  • Review of user-provided archive reference details.

  • File pre-ordering.

  • Physical travel to local Wellington repositories.

1. Base Service (Required: Maximum 20 pages)

2. Advanced Upgrades & Add-ons (Optional)

3. Related Policy Documents

Large & Unindexed Document Policy Historical folders can sometimes contain hundreds of pages and often lack a built-in index. To protect your budget and ensure you only pay for what you actually need, large records are handled using the following framework: "First Look" Index Summary: If a requested file is very large and unindexed, I will pull the physical folder at the repository and compile a quick, structured text summary of the contents (noting key section dates, names, or page ranges). I will email this summary to you so you can decide which sections hold the key to your research. Volume Capture Rate: If you choose to have pages beyond the initial 20 fully digitised, additional pages are billed at a flat bulk rate of $0.50 per page (or $1.00 per page for RAW/DNG formats).

Restricted Records & Agency Approvals Policy Some historical files are restricted due to privacy laws, commercial sensitivity, or repository access policies. The Preliminary Check: Your $40 + $10 per record Research & Access Fee partly covers the time spent locating the record in the catalog and verifying its access status. If I discover the file is restricted before visiting the repository, I will immediately inform you of the specific restriction details. Securing Approval: If a file requires government agency approval or an official Access Authority to be viewed, the client must apply for and secure this permission from the controlling agency. I can provide you with the exact archive reference numbers and agency names needed for your application. Rescheduling Access: Once you receive formal written approval from the agency, you can forward it to me. I will then arrange the repository visit to physically retrieve and capture the document under your authorisation.

4. Custom Research Services (When record details are not provided)

If you do not have the exact archive reference numbers or box codes for the records you need, I can perform the necessary index tracking and database research to locate them for you.

This fee covers my research time and is non-refundable. The cost estimate is based on your research question and budget. 50% deposit of the estimate is required before work starts.
